This Special Edition of the International Journal of Law and Information Technology is devoted to contractual aspects of internet governance. Its focus is primarily on the contractual regime for managing the domain name system (DNS)-a key component of what are commonly termed 'critical internet resources'. The articles presented here are products of a project carried out at the Norwegian Research Center for Computers and Law at the Department of Private Law, University of Oslo with a considerable number of collaborators from other institutions, including the universities of Oxford, Georgetown, Harvard, Arhus, St. Gallen, Sussex and London (Queen Mary). The project is titled 'Governance of the Domain Name System and the Future Internet: New Parameters, New Challenges' (Igov2). It commenced in 2010 and finishes at the end of 2014. It is jointly funded by the Norwegian Research Council and Norid (the organization responsible for managing the .no namespace).
