With the release of vast quantities of declassified files from the United Kingdom's Security Service (MI5/KV), the Foreign Office (FO), Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), Special Operations Executive (SOE), and the Cabinet Office, new light is being shed on the relationship among successive Prime Ministers, and the British Intelligence Community, and the KV and FO. The HS, PREM, and CAB series provide a rich vein for the academics Richard Aldrich and Rory Cormac to mine. Although the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS/MI6) is exempt from the relevant legislation, plenty of CX (the SIS's intelligence product distributed to government departments) to be found among the papers, so even the most secret operations and activities can be laid bare.
