EVALUATION CRITERIA OF NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS — A COMPARISON STUDY BETWEEN INDONESIA AND TAIWAN INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING FIRMS

New product development (NPD) is one of the most important processes for firms tonincrease their profit and competitiveness. This study presents the result of a comparisonnstudy between Taiwan and Indonesia industry in the employment of evaluation criteria fornNPD process. This study is guided by a stage-gate process to derive a structured NPDnperformance evaluation framework. In this study, we use 20 evaluation criteria that arengrouped into five dimensions, market-, financial-, product-, process-, and intuition-basednmeasures. Based on a sample of 148 industrial firms, the findings of the study presentnguidelines for R&D managers as measuring product development and employing appropriatenevaluation dimensions for effectiveness and efficiency in NPD related decisionnmaking.
