Knowledge is power-this maxim stated by Francis Bacon has in the recent times become the mantra of competitive advantage as firms realized that success in the new economy depends on the ability to create and exploit knowledge. That knowledge is power, also reveals another fascinating dimension of knowledge-that people are reluctant to share knowledge for fear of losing that power. This reluctance is even higher in scientific organizations where knowledge is perhaps the only resource. Consequently, both researchers and practitioners are interested in finding out when people share knowledge and when they do not. Knowledge Sharing Among Scientists (Ensign, 2009) delves into this important topic of knowledge sharing in R&D settings.
