摘要

The 690 MW Barra Grande hydro project, now under construction in southern Brazil, includes a 185 m-high concrete faced rockfill dam, one of the highest of its kind in the world. Construction began in July 2001, reservoir impounding is planned in November 2004, and commercial generation is scheduled to start in October 2005. The concession for development of the Barra Grande powerplant was granted to the consortium BAESA - Barra Grande Energetica SA, an association of VBC(CPFL S/A), ALCOA, CCC and DME Energetica. Construction work at the site began in July 2001, and the project is being implemented under a turnkey contract by the UNEBAR Consortium, formed by CCC (civil works and erection), Alstom Brazil (main equipment supplies) and Engevix Engenharia S/A (engineering and substation supplies).
