PV system helps Haiti school power laptops

Bypassing the conventional DC to AC conversion for solar power, a system for recharging pupils' laptops has kept costs well below conventional AC installations. A team from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Green WiFi, and OLPC*-Haiti has provided a school in Lascahobas, Haiti with a solar panels capable of charging 500 laptops. According to research by the team and OLPC, the installation is the largest single-school solar laptop-charging deployment in the world.
