Multiconsult has been awarded a contract by SN Power of Norway to carry out the environmental and social impact assessment for the Middle Yeywa hydro project in Myanmar. SN Power, a hydropower producer and project developer, co-owned by Statkraft and Norfund, is currently completing a feasibility study for the project on the river Myitnge in Shan State, under the terms of an MoU signed with the Government of Myanmar in 2014. The feasibility study is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2017. SN Power is considering various possible development options for the project, which is on a 70 km-long stretch of the river between two other hydropower pro- jects on the same river system. According to preliminary calculations, the planned Middle Yeywa power station, which is about 80 km east of Mandalay, could have a nameplate capacity of 690 MW, representing around 15 per cent of the country's installed capacity.
