Rehabilitation of three units at the 47.6 MW Selingue hydropower plant on the river Sankarani, a tributary of the river Niger, in Mali, is expected to start in February. The work is being financed by the West African Development Bank (BO-AD) with a loan of up to CFA 25 billion (US$ 42.5 million). A consortium of Ingerop and Artelia, contracted by the BOAD to oversee the works, expects first tests on the Voith Kaplan turbines (G1, G2 and G3) to start in February, and work on handling equipment and overhead cranes should start by the end of March. Rehabilitation work on the turbines and generators should begin in July. Civil engineering work will be carried out by the Malian construction company Somafrec. According to the contract, the work is expected to take 34 months, with completion expected by September 2022, but owing to the scale of the project, engineers expect completion to be in early 2023.
