Contract awarded for Hatta pumped-storage project in Dubai

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced on 17 August the award of a contract worth AED 1.437 billion (US$ 391 million) to a consortium of Strabag Dubai LLC, Strabag AG, Andritz Hydro, and Ozkar for the construction of a 250 MW pumped-storage hydropower station at Hatta, the inland exclave of the Emirate of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The Austrian-Turkish consortium won against competition from consortia of GE and Power China, Acciona and Larsen & Toubro and Voith to win the contract. The project, which will be the Arabian Gulf region's first hydropower plant, is scheduled to be commissioned by February 2024.
