Foreword

The 12th International Symposium on Polymer Electrolytes (ISPE-12) was hosted in Padova, Italy between August 29th and September 4th, 2010. ISPE meetings have been held every two years since 1987, in the United Kingdom (St. Andrews, 1987), Italy (Siena, 1989), France (Annecy, 1991), USA (New Port, Rhode Island, 1994), Sweden (Uppsala, 1996), Japan (Hayama, Kanagawa, 1998), Australia (Noosa, Queensland, 2000), USA (Santa Fe, New Mexico, 2002), Poland (Mragowo, 2004), Brazil (Foz do Iguacu, 2006) and Portugal (Ofir, 2008). ISPE-12 broke many records of the previous meetings, including the number of countries represented (29), the number of participants (over 240), and the number of contributions presented at the conference (33 invited presentations, 56 oral lectures, 176 posters).
