摘要

High-strength concrete's are used world-wide and there is an extensive body of international research data and of experience in use to demonstrate its potential and actual benefits. The study which lasted for 90 days is to explore the superior performance of high-strength concrete over the conventional concrete in relation to engineering properties, time-dependent deformations and durability. The engineering properties tests conducted were compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity. In addition, the time-dependent deformation tests such as shrinkage and creep, and durability tests such as chloride penetration and sulfate attack were also investigated. Results of tests performed revealed that the use of high-strength concrete caused an overwhelming increase in engineering properties coupled with a reduction in time-dependent deformations and further improved resistance against chloride penetration and sulfate attack on concrete when compared to conventional concrete.
