The cranial cut: creating a pattern for the human face

This article is a case study of a personal project that was turned into a pattern cutting workshop. Initially, the project arose out of an interest in studying the contrast between how nature has created the human form vs. how tailors create the human form. Nature starts with a hard structure (bone) and covers it in a flexible material (skin) while tailors use darts and seams to shape a non-stretchable material (woven fabric) over the same shapes. Fascination with this contrast led to creating 'sewing patterns' for human faces.
