Zia Ziaie (01.05.1943-17.06.2017)

Zia Ziaie was a senior adviser to Iran's Department of Environment, a shareholder in and senior expert at Yekom Consulting Engineers, Tehran and a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Environmental Studies, among the other positions he held during his career spanning almost 50 years. He was an active founder member of the College of Environment of Tehran University. The college had been founded as a centre in 1973, the year after the Stockholm conference. Zia was the Head of the college from 1988 to 1994. He developed the various courses to be offered, selected teaching staff, developed monitoring systems etc. He continued teaching and supervising student theses, in various academic courses, until recently. A few weeks before his sudden demise, he helped organise the College's foundation day celebration, with an international conference on environmental planning and management, in May 2017. He was recovering from five various surgeries, including for intestinal cancer.
