摘要

The need for reliable good quality equipment and gadgets for domestic or commercial use is not a necessity in rural areas of developing countries; it is a must for faster development. The search for cheaper and clean energy sources has taken a centre stage globally due to the continuous increase in oil fuel prices as well as negative environmental impacts. This paper outlines a project in which the development of inverters/oscillators for lighting and use in some domestic appliances was undertaken by using recyclable locally available materials and simple technology. It is shown that these gadgets, which convert direct current (d.c) from lead-acid batteries (which are recharged using solar panels) to alternating current (a.c) that can be used in lighting, small radios, and even televisions, have several advantages over their commercial counterparts. It is shown that these fabricated inverters are cheap, easy to make, easy to repair and can perform all the functions that can be achieved by commercial inverters/oscillators.
