THE ANALOGY OF FIGHTING IN URBANIZED AREAS IN THE STRUGGLE FOR CASTLES, FORTRESSES AND MODERN CITIES

People at all times had to protect themselves and their property from the encroachments of neighbors, and therefore the art of fortification, that is, the construction of fortifications, is very ancient. In Europe and Asia, you can every where see for tresses built in ancient times and in the Middle ages, as well as in Modern and even Modern times. Simultaneously with the birth and development of the art of building fortifications around settlements (cities) and along the borders of ancient States, the art of attacking (besieging) these fortifications arises and develops. There are many examples of the defense and storming of fortresscities in history. This is not surprising. The party that was attacked and did not have the strength for a fieldbattle, preferred to defend themselves in the fortress cities, where the surrounding population alsogathered in search of salvation. In this case, the otherside was forced to take the fortress city by storm. Over time, the defense and storming of fortresses became bright pages in the book of the history of military art, which often reduced the results of the entirewar, and the names of military leaders whoheld or captured the fortress city were forever written in this book. In this regard, there is a need to draw an analogy between the tactics of fighting for the capture and defense of castles, fortresses and ancientcities and establish a relationship with modern tactics in the fight for cities in urban areas.
