The us White House's new online petitioning tool, called We the People, has been released on WhiteHouse.gov. According to White House Director of digital strategy Macon Phillips, it is "a new way for your voice to be heard in our government". The petitioning tool allows anyone with a valid e-mail address to float a petition to the executive branch. If that petition can collect over 150 electronic signatures, it becomes 'searchable' on WhiteHouse.gov, for others to join in on. If a petition gathers enough signatures - 5000 names within 30 days - the White House promises that lawmakers will review it and an official response will be issued.
