Identification of Risk Factors that Affect Cost Contingency Amount in International Construction Projects: Evidence from Turkish Contractors

International construction projects are highly subject to several complex conditions and contractors include a reasonable contingency amount as an allowance for potential risks in their bids for such projects. This study aims to identify the importance levels of the risk factors that may affect cost contingency amounts in international projects. In this study, 59 risk factors were identified and data of 36 projects were collected via a questionnaire survey for evaluation of these risks. While "bureaucratic difficulties" and "unavailability of qualified workforce in the host country" have "High" importance level, none of these 59 risk factors has "Low" importance level.
