A group of mobile wireless nodes that form a network is called Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANET); such a network has no infrastructure and a de-centralized administration. Hence, these wireless nodes greatly depend on their battery power supplies. This power has a much greater influence on the overall lifetime of the network. Extending the lifetime of mobile node has become a major challenge. This paper proposes a Span Adaptive Zone Routing Protocol (SAZRP) to obtain the maximum energy efficiency in MANET nodes using the approach of combining Span and Remote Activated Switch (RAS), with well-known Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP). Furthermore, to promote energy savings through RASs, this hardware is equipped with all of the nodes that are necessary to wake up a sleeping node at any instant of the beacon interval. The simulation results indicate that the SAZRP protocol provides a significant savings in energy consumption, a substantial increase in the packet delivery ratio, and a better throughput compared to the ZRP protocol.
