Options for periodic data production management

Data production systems are large and world-wide distributed systems used for creating statistical reports. Typically, data is gathered periodically and extrapolated during numerous production steps. Today's industry clearly recognizes the continuing need for improving automated supervision for data production. Data production management is supervision and entails planning, monitoring and controlling production. We invented two significant approaches which are introduced, theoretically described and compared here: the 'closely coupled' - and the 'loosely coupled' approach. In either situation, dates, costs, resources, and system health information is provided. Plan creation is used in the 'closely coupled approach'. Providing production states in form of sophisticated milestone scheduling is the concept behind the 'loosely coupled approach'.
