Security and energy efficiency are very critical in designing sensor networks. Energy efficiency is achieved with the help of a data aggregation technique whereas security is achieved by selecting a lightweight encryption mechanism. This paper presents a secure data aggregation scheme that has two folds one is energy efficiency and other is security. An efficient mechanism of cluster head selection is introduced to achieve energy efficiency. In this scheme cluster head is selected in a manner to minimize the overlap area covered by one or more cluster heads. In proposed data aggregation scheme, redundancy should be removed from the data that send to the base station. The scheme also hides the reading of all the sensors from aggregator or cluster-head because cluster-heads receives a pattern code that is enough to compare the redundancy among the reading of two different sensors. The scheme also provides a security framework between sensor nodes and aggregator and also in between aggregator and the base station. Simulation results show that when redundancy factor increases in the network, energy consumption decreases automatically to improving the performance of the system.
