The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) is of a consultative and purely technical character, its purpose being: 1. the co-ordination of the activities of national hydrographic offices. 2. the greatest possible uniformity of nautical charts and nautical publications. 3. the adoption of effective methods of executing hydrographic surveys, the development of the sciences relative to hydrography and techniques used in descriptive oceanography.
