COUNTRY SPOTLIGHT: ARGENTINA

Argentina is the second largest country in Latin America and eighth largest country in the world. The country is separated from Chile to the west by the Andes Mountains, our western frontier; to the north are the borders with Bolivia and Paraguay, and to the east are those with Brazil, Uruguay and the South Atlantic Ocean. Argentina has a varied landscape and climate. Geographically, four main physi- cal areas can be recognized; the Andes Mountains; the Northern region and Mesopotamia; the Pampas; and Patagonia. The climate ranges from subtropical in the north to sub-Antarctic cold in the south (Tierra del Fuego). Fertile soil and adequate rainfall give Argentina a natural advantage in agriculture, forestry and cattle raising, and places the country among the world's leading food producers.
