As a result of the last two years of economic turmoil, particularly in the banking sector, there has been an increased focus in both the US and the UK on how employers manage risk and, in particular, on the appropriateness of remuneration systems that are seen to reward risk-takers. There is a call for increased regulation and a new focus on adapting an ethical approach to business. UK employers will be viewing with interest the steps taken in the US last month to regulate and manage risk by incentivizing whistle-blowers to "step up" and make their concerns known.
