Santos aims to double output

Australian exploration and production company Santos expects to be producing between 80 million and 90 million barrels of oil equivalent by 2020, almost double its 2011 output, with contributions expected from shale gas in the Cooper Basin, the company said February 17.The company is testing and drilling shale gas wells this year very close to its existing Moomba treatment plant in the Cooper Basin. "We can tie back very quickly if [the shale gas drilling program] demonstrates commerciality," Knox said. "That's one of the beauties a redeveloping a basin that has been in production for 40 years. We've got a lot of kit on the ground ... there's a major shift going on in redeveloping the Cooper."
