Regulators go global with ABS survey

European and international regulators were in focus once again at the end of last week, as the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) called for input on the state of the sector in a wide-reaching survey. The Basel Committee and IOSCO launched the survey on Thursday, asking for responses by July 25, with the aim of understanding how the securitisation market is evolving in different parts of the world. The Bank of England and the ECB have been particularly vocal about boosting the sector and reducing the regulatory imbalance towards it. Now, the BCBS-IOSCO task force is canvassing the market to identify factors that may be hindering the development of sustainable securitisation markets, assess what is inhibiting the participation of investors (particularly non-bank), and build criteria to identify and assist in the development of simple and transparent securitisation.
