M&A pipeline leads to opportunities

Investors, keen to make the most of upcoming corporate M&A activity, are structuring their portfolios ahead of what could be a bumper year for the sector. 2014 is shaping up to be a big year for M&A deals, with year-to-date activity nearly four times that seen in 2013 for the same period, at 35 deals over US$5bn, according to Thomson Reuters data, also making it the strongest for mega-deals since 2007. While many observers expect corporates to use some of the cash that has been sloshing around on their balance sheets to fund a part of that activity, corporates are also expected to gear up.
