EM headed for most downgrades in decade

Emerging market ratings face "eminent stress", warned Standard & Poor's on Friday, as the number of issuers on the verge of a downgrade is far higher than the 10year average. The number of emerging market entities across Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America due to be downgraded by the ratings agency reached 110 at the end of May. This is well above the 10-year average of 69. By contrast, only 25 issuers are poised for an upgrade, below the long-term average of 36.
