Investment bankers love a new corporate structure. Once established, the newly structured company can provide a proxy for value creation, pressuring others with similar assets to contemplate the transformation. Infrareit, which operates electric transmission and distribution (T&D) utility assets in Texas, blazed a path to the public markets on its US$460m IPO. The company is the first owner of T&D assets to be structured as a REIT.
