State Bank of India to raise capital as bad loans fall

State bank of India reported a decline in its bad loan ratio for the first time in more than a year, clearing the way for it to press ahead with an equity placement that could raise more than US$2bn. SBI reported that, for the fourth quarter to March 31, gross non-performing loans as a percentage of total lending fell to 6.90% from 7.23% for the October-December quarter.
