Thrift Industry: The Treasury/Federal Home Loan Bank Board Plan for FSLIC (Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation) Recapitalization

The report discusses the need for a recapitalization of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC). The authors are providing the results of the study on recapitalization and, more specifically, the analysis of the recapitalization plan first proposed jointly by the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB) in mid-1986. FSLIC, which insures the safety of savings in thrifts and home-financing institutions and plays an important role in sustaining public confidence in the soundness of the U.S. financial system.
