Profits up at Singapore, Australia banks

Two of Singapore's three listed banks posted slight increases in net profit in the first quarter as non-performing loan losses stabilised, raising optimism they might be past the worst for losses. DBS CROUP, Singapore's largest bank in asset terms, reported a net profit of S$1.21bn (US$864m) for the first quarter to the end of March, compared with S$1.20bn for the same period last year.
