Credit derivatives could be set to reverse a decade of contraction, despite a slow start to the year that has seen traded credit default swap notionals fall by almost a quarter. A positive result from round one of the French election, which sees centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron tipped to beat far right rival Marine Le Pen on May 7, is being viewed as an inflexion point for a market where outstanding CDS notionals plummeted from US$60trn to US$12trn over the past 10 years.
