CITIGROUP is the top firm for transaction banking, thanks to leading positions for trade finance and cash management and in all three geographic regions, analysis firm Coalition said. Transaction banking, or the collection of "vanilla" services offered by banks to trading partners, is an increasingly important area for banks looking to bring in stable revenues as trading income comes under pressure. Many banks are also trying to bulk up in transaction banking as a way to deepen relationships with major corporate clients, or to get a bigger share of clients' wallet.
