Year ends with rush of deals

Chinese issuers rushed to print last-minute US dollar bonds in the final two weeks of 2016, causing a surge of offerings in typically the quietest period of the year. Eight Asian bonds, all from Chinese issuers, raised a total US$2.03bn over the two-week period. This was in stark contrast to the last fortnight of 2015, when only US$49.8m was printed in Asia, according to Thomson Reuters data. Over the same periods in 2014 and 2013, there were absolutely no deals.
