TPI climate centre to provide ESG data

The Transition Pathway Initiative is establishing the TPI GLOBAL CLIMATE TRANSITION CENTRE, which will provide free public data on how companies are performing on their net-zero commitments that will allow investors to benchmark and compare companies' climate performance. The centre will significantly expand equity market coverage to 10,000 companies from 400 now, and scrutinise corporate and sovereign bond issuers, providing independent research on all three asset classes. It will provide detailed analysis of the highest emitting companies and sectors, and give investors transparent independent analysis to inform investment decisions and help meet their net zero commitments. The announcement comes just days ahead of the UN's COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, and TPI said it wants the centre to be a critical part of the post-COP26 financial infrastructure. "Insights from the TPI Global Climate Transition Centre will help markets clearly see which companies are serious about climate and which are not," said Adam Matthews, chair of TPI and chief responsible investment officer of the Church of England Pensions Board.
