Next frontier for ESG derivatives: the Americas

There are tentative signs of an uptick in derivative products linked to sustainable finance across the Americas this year, according to bankers, as they look to replicate Europe's success in developing a market for ESG-friendly investments in the region. Only about 1% of the roughly US$70bn in SEC-registered structured notes sold to wealthy US investors last year were based on thematic indices such as those screening companies on ESG criteria, according to Barclays.
