UBS chooses first chief sustainability officer

UBS has appointed Michael Baldinger as its first chief sustainability officer within a new sustainability and social impact unit set up to lead the Swiss bank's drive to meet net zero carbon emissions commitments and related issues. Baldinger will report to Suni Harford, president of UBS Asset Management and the group executive board member responsible for sustainability and impact. Baldinger joined UBS as head of sustainable and impact investing within asset management in 2016 from RobecoSAM, where he was chief executive. UBS has also appointed Phyllis Costanza, currently responsible for the group's philanthropy services, community affairs and Optimus Foundation, as head of social impact. She will remain in charge of her current activities. UBS said Costanza had built the Optimus Foundation into a leader in effective philanthropy and innovative development finance.
