Scope moves into ESG bond opinions

German ESG ratings firm SCOPE RATINGS is launching a second-party opinion service for green bonds and other labelled ESG bonds as the expanding sustainable debt market offers opportunity to compete with larger players such as Sustainalytics. The ratings agency is carving out a niche for itself as it is able to provide an impact score that puts a monetary value on companies' ESG issues based on a quantative macroeconomic model, although it does not provide ESG ratings. The ESG Impact Review can provide Scope 3 measurement for greenhouse gas emissions, child labour and corruption in global supply chains across 300 sectors in 45 countries. Supply chains are increasingly in focus as they often hide companies' worst ESG problems.
