A small cohort of cash-flush companies have performed well enough through the pandemic and have enough confidence in their ability to generate revenue that they are beginning to pay down debt. Companies are gaining sufficient visibility into next year's operations that they are willing to use the vast cash buffers built up through record-setting bond issuance in the first half of the year to start paying down debt well ahead of when most analysts thought possible.
