Eskom seeks mercy from government

Utility eskom's bonds are under the cosh as the rumble of a debt restructuring grows louder, while the South African state-owned company's plans to right itself could drag its sovereign into trouble. Eskom's management wants the government to take on about R100bn (US$7.1bn) of its debt, a move that investors say would be credit-positive for the company, but which would come at the expense of the sovereign.
