La Seda de Barcelona - Europe's PET Leader Enters North American Market

The board of directors of La Seda de Barcelona (LSB) announced in January that they have agreed to the purchase of Intercontinental Quimica S.A. (Interquisa) thereby entering the North American market. Since 2003, Interquisa has owned a state-of-the-art PTA production facility in Montreal that serves the North American market. With Interquisa, LSB will become a key player not only in PET (installed capacity of 1 m tons, 28% of European market), but also in its main raw material PTA (1.9 m tons, one-third of it in North America). With the acquisition of Interquisa, LSB deepens its vertical integration backwards into PTA and expands its international presence across the Atlantic.
