The US EPA-approved SA-1000 Scanning Analyser from Palintest (UK) uses tiny, disposable electrode sensors to provide fast, accurate on-site testing for lead and copper concentrations in potable water. Portable testing for these elements has traditionally suffered from a limiting lack of precision, but Palintest's simple technique - enabled by complex technology - provides results that are comparable to those obtained from lab-based atomic absorption methods. No complex sample preparation is required; a conditioning tablet is added to the water and then the electrode is inserted. The battery-powered SA-1000 then applies varying currents and potentials in order to determine the scale of lead and copper ion presence down to levels as low as 5 μg/l.
