EU Commission Proposes Metals Recycling, Biofuels Use as Main Issues for U.N. Panel

European Union Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas Nov. 10 said a new U.N. panel on sustainable resource use should prioritize work on biofuels and on establishing a global strategy for metal recycling. Speaking in Budapest, Hungary, at the inaugural meeting of the U.N. International Panel for Sustainable Resource Management, Dimas said the main objective was to "decouple resource use and other environmental impacts from economic growth."
