Europe Gets Extended Deadline to Comply With WTO Ruling on Biotech Restrictions

The European Union has been given an extended deadline to comply with a World Trade Organization dispute ruling condemning the European Union's de facto moratorium on the marketing of products containing genetically modified organisms. In separate communications dated Nov. 21 and addressed to the chairman of the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body, the European Union and the three complainants in the dispute—the United States, Argentina, and Canada—said they had jointly agreed to extend the compliance deadline from Nov. 21 to Jan. 11.
