摘要

Wellington, New Zealand—The government Oct. 11 announced it wants 90 percent of its electricity generation to come from renewable sources by 2025. Currently about 65 percent of electricity comes from renewables, mainly from hydropower. The government has told state-owned electricity generators (which together supply two-thirds of the country's electricity) that it does not want them to build any new fossil-fueled power capacity over the next 10 years. By the end of the year, the government will decide whether to amend the Electricity Act to impose the same obligation on privately owned electricity companies.
