Lima—The head of the Peruvian legislature's environmental commission has proposed a series of bills to improve the country's management of solid waste.rnRep. Carlos Canepa, president of the Commission on Andean, Amazonian, Afro-Peruvian Peoples, Environment and Ecology, said Peru urgently needs to implement new controls for solid waste management.rn"Solid waste management is a critical issue in Peru, but it is not being addressed adequately despite legislation," he told BNA Oct. 19. "Authorities in the sector estimate that only 20 percent of solid waste is adequately treated."
