Rio de janeiro—Brazil May 22 became the second country after South Africa to formally join a planned 10-country group to coordinate the implementation of the Global Invasive Species Program (GISP), an Environment Ministry official told BNA May 24.rnGISP, based in Capetown, South Africa, was founded by three international nongovernmental organizations in 1997 to combat the invasion of alien species into native ecosystems and to help reverse related damage. GISP, which is funded in part by the World Bank, aims to help implement the relevant parts of the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity.
