Ontario Plans Fast-Track Approvals For Major Public Transportation Projects

The provincial government of Ontario will provide an accelerated approval process for major public transit projects, eliminating the need for such projects to undergo individual environmental assessments, Environment Minister John Gerretsen said June 25. The new process will give municipal and provincial transit authorities a six-month window to complete consultations with the public, to undertake environmental assessments, and to identify mitigation measures for potential environmental impacts of major transit projects, Gerretsen said in a statement.
