New Venezuelan Forestry Law Intended to Promote Sustainability

Venezuela June 5 approved a Law of the Forests to prioritize collective interests over individual ones and to emphasize sustainable uses of forestland. The law was published in the Official Gazette 38946 of June 5, 2008. Venezuela has one of the world's highest deforestation rates, according to the Center for Integral Studies of the Environment at Venezuelan Central University.
