French Group Says REACH Compliance Could be Competitive Advantage by 2013

Europe-based chemical makers that manage to survive the first four or five difficult years of REACH implementation could gain a competitive advantage-particularly in terms of public image-over rivals based in areas with less restrictive regulation, according to the president of France's biggest chemical industry lobby. Jean Pelin, executive director of the Paris-based Union of Chemical Industries (UIC), said May 22 that European chemical manufacturers have significant worries about the first four or five years of implementation of the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation (EC/1907/ 2006).
